Invitation to Corn Roast

Invitation to Corn Roast: Columbus Bosco Homes will hold an Annual Corn Roast Fundraiser on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the Farm School, 10 minutes NE of Saskatoon. This fundraiser helps support at-risk youth in an educational/farm setting. The Season of Creation

* The Season of Creation – A program entitled the Season of Creation is being inaugurated as an annual celebration of prayer and action to protect creation. The Season of Creation will be celebrated by Christians of all traditions, and the leaders of various churches have encouraged the faithful to participate. The season begins on Sept. 1, the World Day of Prayer for Creation, and runs through Oct. 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology. Sept. 1 was proclaimed as World Day of Prayer for Creation, or Creation Day by Ecumenical Patriarch Dimitrios I for the Orthodox Church in 1989, and was embraced by the other major Christian churches in 2001, and by Pope Francis for the Roman Catholic Church in 2015. The Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saskatoon is inviting all to celebrate Akathist prayers in Praise and Care for God’s Creation 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Steve Patola Park, 1235 20th Street West, Saskatoon, as representatives of several faith communities pray for creation. After the prayer service we will meet for coffee right next to the park at St. George’s Senior Citizens Club. An introduction to faith communities and dialogue will follow. Compassionate Healers' Mass for all those involved in health care (doctors, nurses, health care professionals of all kinds, administrators, staff, volunteers in health care facilities or care homes), or pastoral care to the sick and suffering, will be held Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Parish, 222 Willow Street (Corner of Melrose Avenue and Hilliard), Saskatoon with Bishop Mark Hagemoen presiding. All are welcome to come and be blessed by worship focused on our call to follow Christ the Healer.

2018-2019 Les and Irene Dubé Chair in Catholic Studies lecture series presents a panel discussion 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18, 2018 at St. Thomas More College, Saskatoon. This evening will feature an interdisciplinary set of reflections on Pope Francis’ Gaudete et exsultate. Bishop Mark Hagemoen is one of the panel participants.A wine and cheese reception will follow.  

Saskatoon Regional Quilters

* The Saskatoon Regional Quilters will be meeting at Holy Spirit Church in Saskatoon on Sept.17, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  All those interested in quilting, ironing, sorting fabric or just coming to see what goes on are very welcome to attend. All quilts made go to charities within our city.  If you are staying all day, please bring a bag lunch. Coffee and tea supplied. Come for the day or come for an hour. Bring your own sewing supplies, fabric and batting supplied. We look forward to seeing you.  Future quilting dates: October 1, 15, 29 and November 12 and 26. No quilting in December. TRANSITIONS is a diocesan program for those who are divorced and/or separated. If you have been divorced or are separated, and you are feeling disheartened and abandoned, know that you are not alone and there is help. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon offers a peer ministry program called Transitions twice a year, facilitated by those who have already experienced what you are experiencing and have found some healing. The sessions are held Monday evenings, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for 12 weeks at the Cathedral of the Holy Family, 123 Nelson Road. Fall sessions begin Monday, Sept. 10.
