St. Paul's Hospice Fundraiser

  * St. Paul’s Hospice Fundraiser - St. Philip Neri Parish in Saskatoon is hosting a fundraiser steak night at the Sutherland Bar & Grill on Tuesday, Oct. 30. Proceeds from this evening will go towards the building of the Hospice at Glengarda – Saskatoon’s first residential hospice. The evening will include supper, a silent auction and a 50/50 draw. Tickets will be available at the St. Philip Neri Parish Office, corner of Munroe Avenue and Taylor Street, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, and from the St. Philip Neri Parish Nurses. Tickets will also be on sale before and after all Masses. Cost $20 per ticket. CASH ONLY. All donations of Silent Auction items will be gratefully accepted and can be left at the Parish Office.

Jocelyne Hamoline from the Diocese of Saskatoon Catholic Foundation will be giving a 2-hour talk on organizing your affairs.  This talk tackles topics such as preparing your Will and choosing the right Executor and Power of Attorney, completing your Health Care Directive, planning your funeral, and more, all with a Catholic perspective.  The presentation is free.  The “Catholic Planning Guide to my Estate” and the “A Faith-Based Advance Health Care Directive” booklet from CHAS will be available for purchase at the cost of $5.00 each (cash or check only). From Mourning to Dawn - diocesan grief support group for widows and widowers

From Mourning to Dawn,the diocesan grief support group for widows and widowers begins a new session on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018. Mourning to Dawn facilitators (who have themselves also experienced the death of a marriage partner) engage with participants on an eight-week journey of transformation and healing, offering support and encouragement for bereaved spouses. This program is open to participants who have been widows/widowers between 2 months and 2 years. Sessions are held at the Catholic Pastoral Centre in the Cathedral of the Holy Family (123 Nelson Road) on eight consecutive Tuesdays, beginning Sept. 11, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost is $35.For more information or to register, please contact Dianna Knaus at dknaus@sasktel.net (306) 382-0535.

Bishop Mark Hagemoen celebrates Mass at Catholic Health Association of Saskatchewan conference 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the Saskatoon Inn.       This year marks the 75th Annual Convention of the Catholic Health Association of Saskatchewan which will be held on October 22-23, 2018 at Saskatoon Inn.   Our first keynote, Sr. Nuala Kenny, OC, MD, FRCP will help us to focus on Jesus as our True North. Sr. Nuala will reflect on the journey of change and the inevitable questions we all face regarding health, illness, suffering, and dying. Sr. Nuala will provide a spiritual and biblical reflection to this by linking Jesus’ own experience of suffering and death with real-life stories about patients. She will be followed by Dr. Tracy Trothen, who will share her expertise on Why Values Matter and How Do We Know What’s Rightwith a focus on Moral Distress. Dr. Trothen will lead us through an interactive exploration of values and explore the reality of moral distress, and what happens when we find our values compromised. Finally, we are privileged to have the opportunity to hear Gregg Brown, MSC, CTDP, who will lead us to his interactive, powerful, mission-focused session on Learning Resilence, Leading Change. Brown will provide his participants with a unique perspective in order to acquire the critical mindset and skills needed to deal with change in any environment.   In addition to these three keynote speakers, our inspirational speaker, Mark Dansereau will share his personal family story, the heartache of losing a child to cancer, and the strength to find continuing hope. Following his daughter’s death, Marc’s passion to promote the value of hospice care grew. Marc’s desire to do something meaningful led him to build sandcastles, something that they do as a family – one that is special -  Bernadette’s castle. Bishop Mark Hagemoen is the guest speaker at the Lay Formation Alumni Fall Gathering to be held Saturday, Oct. 27 at Queen's House, 601 Taylor Street West, Saskatoon SK. The day begins with Mass at 8 a.m., followed by breakfast at 9 a.m. Bishop Mark Hagemoen will speak during the morningm, followed by lunch and an AGM. A presentation on "what it means to be alumni" will be given at 2 p.m. followed by discussion, with prayer and farewell at 3 p.m. Cost is $40 - Deadline to register is Oct. 22.
